Our ongoing collaboration with Alexander Girard continues with the designer's storiedPalioprint. Designed in 1964 while Girard was leading Herman Miller's textile devision, Palio is a visual representation of the Palio di Siena, a biannual horse race in Siena, Italy. The race features ten horses with their jockeys dressed in the colors of their contrade, or city wards. Girard'sPalio pulls its colors and motifs from the various flags of Siena's contrade.
To continue Girard’s emphasis of quality craftsmanship, we had Paliometiculously reengineered by one of our Italian partner mills on a summer-weight 100% cotton poplin. Each color was matched to their original pantones and extra care was taken to ensure pigments hold fast and resist bleeding.
